After what feels like an eternity of concept art drops and behind-the-scenes teases, we finally have something to actually circle on our calendars. Netflix confirmed that Wit Studio’s highly anticipated remake, The One Piece, is set to premiere in February 2027. That’s right. We’re really doing this.
The project was first announced back in December 2023, and since then Wit Studio has been playing things pretty close to the chest. Most of what we’ve seen has been concept artwork and production updates that, while cool, don’t exactly scratch the hype itch. We still don’t have a proper trailer, but a release window? That’s progress we can get behind.
Season 1 will cover the first 50 chapters of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, diving into the beloved East Blue Saga. This is where it all begins. The birthplace of Gold Roger, Luffy’s childhood, the formation of the Straw Hat crew. The whole origin story that set the stage for one of the greatest manga runs in history. The season wraps right before Luffy’s first encounter with Sanji at the floating restaurant Baratie, which is a solid stopping point that leaves plenty of room for what comes next.
Here’s the kicker though. All seven episodes drop at once. No weekly waiting, no cliffhangers stretching across months. Just sit down, buckle up, and binge the whole thing. The total runtime clocks in at around 300 minutes, so plan your weekend accordingly.
If the release window alone isn’t enough to get you hyped, just look at who Wit Studio has assembled for this. The project is being directed by Masashi Koizuka, who fans will recognize from Attack on Titan and Moonrise. Series composition is handled by Taku Kishimoto, the writer behind Sakamoto Days. Character design and chief animation direction is split between Kyoji Asano (Spy x Family, Attack on Titan) and Takatoshi Honda (In/Spectre). Creature design and image boards come from Yasuhiro Kajino, whose credits include In/Spectre and Batman: Under the Red Hood. The full production is a collaboration between Wit Studio, Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation. That’s a lot of heavy hitters in the room.
The original One Piece anime is a legend, but asking someone to jump into a 1,100-plus episode series is a big ask, especially for newcomers. Wit Studio’s adaptation is shaping up to be the definitive entry point for fans who want to experience the story without the commitment of a decade-long watch queue. Wit Studio has promised a fresh take that uses cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine the East Blue Saga while keeping things familiar for longtime fans. Given what they did with Attack on Titan and Spy x Family, there’s every reason to be optimistic.
Now that we have a release window, hopefully the floodgates start to open a little. More meaningful updates, maybe a teaser or two, and eventually that full trailer we’ve all been waiting for. February 2027 gives Wit Studio some runway, so expect the promotional rollout to pick up steam over the next several months. The East Blue waits for no one.
The One Piece premieres February 2027, exclusively on Netflix.
